I have a cousin who lives in San Francisco. She's lived there for like, her whole life. I've been talking to her all this week this is just a bit of our conversation today. About 2 years ago when she came to my sister's wedding she couldn't speak spanish and since then she's been taking classes in her high school and in this conversation I was just kind of testing her to see if she could speak it well. Apparently she can't that well yet so we continued our conversation in english instead.
For my second week I saw the movie Moulin Rouge. Moulin Rouge has been my favorite movie since I was about 9. I watch it every once in a while and I always cry at the end. It is about a guy who believes in love but has never been in love and a woman who doesnt believe at all in love, she says she cant fall in love because of her job. He makes her fall for him but they have to hide their love from everyone. More people find out until the Duke ends up knowing which is the one Satine and Christian have to hide their love the most from. She breaks up with him because the Duke threatens to kill Christian if she doesnt. Satine finds out shes dying. Christian decides to go find out if Satine ever loved him given to the fact she was a prostitute and they end up singing their song. It was supposed to be a happy ending except that Satine dies. I loved the quotes from this movie especially, "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return" Great movie.(:
For my third week I have been researching through the internet about tennis classes in Miami. Next week I'm leaving to visit my sister in Miami and I wanted to get into a tennis camp. Currently I'm receiving tennis classes in la Villa 3 days a week and instead of leaving the habit I'm trying to continue it. This webpage I posted here I did not like too much, so I'm going to continue researching.
For my fourth week, well, I just arrived in Miami which means of course that I'll be talking english a lot. This weekend my family decided to go to Islamorada which is a place here in Florida, very close to Key West. Our plans were to go to Key West first and then sleep in Islamorada, then spending the next day in Islamorada. Our plans got completely ruined because the reservations my sister had made apparently were never made. We spent about 2 hours on the beach and had to watch the USA game in some restaurant(which was really pretty) in Islamorada. We later had to come back to Miami.
For my fifth week, my mom, my dad and me went to Orlando. With my dad we decided to go to Island of Adventure since I had never gone to that park before since I'm too scared to get into the roller coasters. This year though I was pretty exited for the roller coasters, no longer scared. Everyone over there speaks english so I practiced my english a lot at Orlando. We went to the new Harry Potter ride and also enjoyed a cup of Butterbeer, for the Harry Potter fans who know what that is. You can see me there with my thumbs up making line to get some Butterbeer. Besided practicing my English that day I enjoyed it too, I had a good time.:)
For my sixth week I was at Miami and I started working at Holy Cross Hospital. The hospital is in Ft. Lauderdale and since my sister works there I had to leave wither her. Working at the hospital meant getting up at 5:30 in the morning, and a 1 hour ride in the car, even though I did enjoy the coffee on our way to the hospital. Before I could even start working I had to go to two interviews so that they could show me around the hospital and then I even had to have a TB test. Even thought Ft. Lauderdale is near Miami not too many people spoke Spanish which of course means I had to speak English all the time. I had to go into each patient room, grab a board they have and fix it up for them, of course I couldn't just barge into each room, I had to knock and explain why I was there. My sister took me inside the OR, and I was able to peek into an operation, after that she took me to the Emergency Department in which I worked with some other patients, counting linen for them.
For my seventh week I started and finished reading The Catcher in the Rye. Everyone has recommended that book to me and told me that it is really good. Sincerely, I did not like it. I thought that the book had no point because it was just this boy telling you about his "adventures". What stressed me the most about the book was that everything, absolutely everything that happened during the book depressed Holden, and then that he practically did not like anybody. He called people up to meet them but mostly he didnt like them, it didn't make any sense. I finished reading the book because I don't like to leave books in the middle of reading them, but I did not enjoy that book at all.
For my eight week I have been talking to some friends I've got in Guatemala. I met them this year in HACIA Democracy. We did not talk much at first and I believe I made a wrong impression the first time they met me but we started talking a lot during summer and we got along a lot. I talk spanish with my friends all the time and so I thought that because they were Guatemalan I would speak spanish with them all the time but I was wrong. We speak both languages but for the most part we speak english and I enjoy it since I don't do that very often with friends. I'll probably go visit Guatemala some day soon and see them once again in person!(or if not I'll just have to wait for HACIA 2011.)
